Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Decibel Meter (“the App”) is designed to measure environmental noise and capture audio/video evidence on your device. This policy explains what data the App accesses and how it is handled.
Data stored on your device
All recordings, measurement logs, calibration settings, and exported files are stored locally on your iPhone. The App does not upload your audio, video, or measurement data to our servers.
Permissions we request
- Microphone — Required to measure noise levels and record voice-activated audio. Audio is processed on-device for dB readings, waveforms, and optional AI sound classification.
- Camera — Required only when you use the Video feature to record evidence with decibel overlays burned into the footage.
- Location (When In Use) — Used only during video recording to embed GPS coordinates in the evidence overlay. Location is not tracked in the background for other features.
- Background audio — If you enable “Background monitoring,” the App may continue measuring and voice-activated recording while in the background. This uses more battery.
Third-party services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase — Analytics and crash reporting to help improve app stability. Data is processed according to Google’s privacy policy.
- Google AdMob — Displays app open and interstitial ads on launch and when returning from background (unless you have an active Premium subscription or legacy Remove Ads purchase; see below). AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data for ad delivery. See Google Privacy Policy.
If you share files via the system share sheet, those actions are governed by the app or service you choose.
In-app purchases and subscriptions
Decibel Meter Premium (auto-renewable subscription)
Decibel Meter Premium is offered as Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly auto-renewable subscriptions through Apple’s App Store. Monthly and Yearly plans may include a 3-day free trial for eligible subscribers.
- Payment and billing — All subscription charges are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment card details or Apple ID credentials. Apple’s handling of purchase and subscription data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- On-device verification — The App uses Apple StoreKit to verify your subscription on your device. Entitlement status is cached locally so Premium access can work offline. We do not operate our own servers to validate or store your purchase history.
- What changes with Premium — Third-party advertising (AdMob) is not loaded or shown. Premium unlocks extended recording and video limits and AI sound filters as described in the App. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics may still run for app stability and usage insights, as described above.
- Restore purchases — If you reinstall the App or use a new device signed into the same Apple ID, you can restore your subscription from the App. Restoration is handled by Apple’s App Store.
- Refunds — Refund requests are handled by Apple according to App Store policies. If Apple approves a refund, Premium access may be revoked when the App next verifies entitlements with the App Store.
Remove Ads (legacy one-time purchase)
Decibel Meter also offers an optional, one-time Remove Ads purchase (non-consumable) through Apple’s App Store. This permanently disables app open and interstitial ads for your Apple ID on supported devices. It does not unlock Premium recording limits, video limits, or AI filters.
- Payment and billing — All purchases are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment card or Apple ID credentials. Apple’s handling of purchase data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- On-device verification — The App uses Apple StoreKit to verify your purchase on your device. Entitlement status is cached locally so ad-free access can work offline. We do not operate our own servers to validate or store your purchase history.
- What changes after purchase — Third-party advertising (AdMob) is not loaded or shown. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics may still run for app stability and usage insights, as described above.
- Restore purchases — If you reinstall the App or use a new device signed into the same Apple ID, you can restore your Remove Ads purchase from Settings in the App. Restoration is handled by Apple’s App Store; we do not maintain a separate account system.
- Refunds — Refund requests are handled by Apple according to App Store policies. If Apple approves a refund, ad-free access may be revoked when the App next verifies entitlements with the App Store.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
